Jem! Is truly outrageous!

Forgive me while I regress for a moment. I'm starting a new book, taking notes, beginning research -- all of which is a great deal of fun -- but I stumbled across some...old memories...on Youtube, and now feel compelled to share all the goodness of 80's and early 90's cartoon themes. Noticeably absent are She-Ra, He-Man, Exosquad, and Biker Mice from Mars (as well as a few other from the Golden Age of Saturday morning cartoons), but that's only because of space issues. Anyone who knows me or who reads this blog for two seconds will also likely be disturbed by the absence of anything related to Transformers, but as my love for those big metal robots is renowned, I see no reason to hammer it over anyone's head...again. Michael Bay, you better do my Autobots right.

And for a real blast from the past:

I'm always pleased when someone else knows who the SilverHawks are. As a teenager I didn't know anyone who had watched the show. I rewatched several episodes about 6 years ago and just giggled.

Knowing that I'm not alone makes me suddenly feel like SO MUCH LESS of a loser than when I spent four hours pulling up all my favorite old shows a couple months ago. Mom mocked me for it, but hey - I think it's perfectly normal to try and recreate the USA Saturday Morning Cartoon Train via YouTube (do you know HOW HARD it is to try and find Super Ted when you can't remember the name?). If you really want to have fun, look up the Gummi Bears in other languages. Hee!

We have DangerMouse on DVD!
The rest, well, I was actually in college and working at a day care, so I do remember these, but as a grown-up. Different spin, I'm sure! Although, Jem really was truly outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outrageous!

Hulu.com has complete episodes of EXOSQUAD. Just in case there's anybody else who thought DAMN THAT WAS AWESOME.

Thanks for those great videos, Marjorie! *sigh* As a kid I loved all of those cartoons. I think the theme song from Gummi Bears will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. :)

Hooray! I spent the first few days of my vacation looking up 'oldies' on YouTube, too! I spent time looking up the origional My Little Pony, Rainbow Bright, Care Bears and Lady Lovely Locks movies and series as well (I love the 'girly' stuff, too. ;) ) Two things really stick out for me - how forgiving we were as kids to inconsistencies in animation (especially with My Little Pony), and how deep the themes in the movies for some of these characters were (Rainbow Bright was practically spiritual!). Ahhh, the good old days of cartoons . . .

The best thing about having a 5 and 6 year old is I can make them watch these shows, so I can watch them again. My children love Gummi Bears and He-man and She-ra.
