I'm learning more about that basement than I ever wanted to. Things live down there! But what did I expect? Things live in the attic, too! I'm surrounded by an army of small furred creatures (not including cats, poodles, etc) who seem to think they own this place. And they do! I feel like chopped liver.

Here, this is relaxing. Just One More Book is a podcast for children's books, and it really is delightful. Check out their discussion of Cynthia Rylant's Snow.

Did you manage to make any headway in the Battle of the Bad Bathroom while in the basement?

Once I accidentally left the basement door open after putting away the summer porch furniture. It was hours later when I came home to find it agape. I took the dog down to the basement with me to look for critters who might have tried to move in, but I'm pretty sure that even if we'd found any, he wouldn't have chased them out. He'd think it was a fuzzy new playmate for him.

Actually, no. I was down there looking for a valve like you mentioned, and didn't see anything. I've been in the crawl space behind the tub, too, and that was also a bust -- except for finding a mouse nest. Ha!

When an old house senses you have fallen out of love and are about to abandon it, it gets vindictive. It's sort of like a first wife in that respect.

Oh, and check out the dudes on my cover. (see usepic.)

Home repair issues, particularly plumbing, can be so upsetting. I hope it all gets cleared up soon.
